It is five years since I first met the amazing people who are CommsHero. They have created a really popular brand and organised some fascinating events. I remember blogging before the event in Manchester in May 2015 about some concerns that it was a little out of my comfort zone. Well, five years later and it feels that everything is out of my comfort zone.
To start with I have set up my consultancy and become the director of a business right at the start of a pandemic. I find myself doing all this while working from home, facing restrictions on everyday life and really valuing any kind of human contact. This is anything but a normal moment in our lives and in the history of the world.
Back in 2015 I could have never imagined how things would be now and also what I would have been through during that half decade. So I am delighted to be asked to take part in the first virtual CommsHero event at the end of September. Asif Choudry and his colleagues have brought together an amazing line up of speakers and it is an honour to be alongside them.
My contribution will be focused on living with uncertainty, crisis and risk. It is something we have not really had to do in our lifetimes. We have to get comfortable with personally and professionally living with this state of flux. As communicators it is a huge challenge, we like to be able to plan, look forward and have some certainty and the world has none of that. Our personal resilience and the resilience of businesses and organisations is what will help is move forward in a positive and productive way.
Beyond that this is a real opportunity for communicators to help businesses navigate their way forward. We can connect with people in an authentic and compassionate way, support employees with the massive change that they are dealing with, and ultimately help people to make sense of moving forward. If we can do all this then it will help us to be crisis ready for the future.
If that sounds of interest then I would love you to join me for the CommsHero discussion. Check out the details for the conference http://www.commshero.com and what I am sure is going to be a worthwhile investment in your professional development.
