I set off to work for the usual Monday at work thinking I knew exactly what was going to happen. We all benefit from some stability in our lives and more so now in such turbulent times. Of course the variety of my job is something I enjoy and the fact every day is different.
But those plans can go straight out of the window on some occasions. Today was one of those days for me. Everything I had planned and that was in my diary didn’t quite happen. From the moment I walked through the door and turned the computer on things were turned around and new issues emerged.
When we have such days it is a real test of our adaptability, tenacity and determination. It is easy when things are going to plan and we feel in control, when change takes place it puts us under pressure. Human nature is such that we are happiest with stability and in 2017 change has become the new norm.
The key is for us to build our resilience to take a day at a time, be able to meet the change without stress and be unshakable when things occur. There are new skills we need to have as modern communicators in a dynamic work environment.
I sit here tonight and while I still have a long list of things that need to be done that I haven’t managed to do today I am quite content. I have met the new challenges and those unexpected things that came into my life. We have to expect the unexpected if we are to adapt and survive.
